Allis Chalmers Model WD Magneto Time settings

I have a Allis Chalmers model wd and took the magneto off for cleaning. Now it's back firing. I can't figure how to re-set the timing because I can't find any marks. Any help is greatly appreciated.

1. Remove the spark plug from the number one cylinder (one closest to radiator).
2. With hand crank or fan blade if you do not have the crank rotate the engine in direction of normal rotation until you can feel compression in the cylinder with your finger over the hole. Continue bringing the piston up until the dead center mark on the flywheel can be seen in the timeing whole of the bell housing.
3. There should now be a small indentation on the gear that drives the magneto.
4. Under the cover on the magneto, ther should be to small gears. These will each have a small indentation on them sometimes colered. Rotate the magneto backwards slowly until these marks align with the rotator set on the number one plug wire. When they do reassemble the cap with out turning the drive gear.
5. You should now be able to insert the magneto back in its mounting whole while aligning the small indentations on the gears as you did under the magneto cap. Snug the mounting bolt and nut down but do not tighten as you have yet to time the trtactor once idling.
6. As for the timeing, there are the sttings in the book, but depending on altitude you may want to adjust by a degree or two to suit conditions and fuel economy.
I hope I got it all, but if I missed some things, I am sure other will fill in the gaps.
