CA with a bushog

I have been using my tractor for plowing and it is working great. I am now ready to start cutting. I have a 5ft bushog and I am about to order a 3 point hitch my CA. But I have a problem. When I start the CA, I have to start it with the hydraulics/pto on because I get a lot of grinding when I engage the hydraulics/pto with the hand clutch pulled back. By the way the foot clutch does not work. Is it safe to turn over the engine with the pto connected to the bushog? Is this the correct operation of using a bushog?

My AC C clutch had similar problem this summer due to very humid weather. The plates rusted to each other, so even though linkage was ok, depressing clutch peddle would not disengage powertrain. The fix was to jack up one rear wheel, put tractor in 3rd gear with engine off, and "rock" the wheel back and forth. Took about 1 minute of this to break the rust. Try this - it's a lot easier than splitting the tractor! Good luck.

It will be impossible to use a bush hog without the foot clutch operating. It will be impossible to put it in gear. You're also ruining your transmission and PTO shifter using it the way you are now.

You should get the foot clutch working before you have much bigger problems....like the tranny and pto gears getting stripped. The hand clutch is not meant to be used for shifting gears....or engaging the pto!!

What is involved in getting my foot clutch operating? Right now I press down and nothing happens. By the way, thanks for your help on the hydraulic pump. It now works great.

Yes splitting the tractor isn't too bad a job. Support and balance the front end very well. Hang it from a chainfall too as a safety. Place dolly and good stable stack of blocks under torque tube and roll the back half of the tractor back. But before you do all of this work, which I agree you probably will be doing, look up in the hole under the clutch housing with a good light and see if things are working, that is the fork is moving the throwout bearing. Maybe you just have a linkage problem. You should fix the clutch, the hand clutch is just for momentarily stopping the tractor. Like if you get to a tough section while mowing or baleing.

I think you will probably have to split the tractor and take a look at it. It is a pretty easy job.

If you can look up and see the throwout bearing moving forward and it contacts the clutch fingers it would seem your clutch is releasing. But maybe the disc is stuck to the flywheel or clutch disc? If the tractor sat this can happen. I don't know what causes it. WD I am working on sat for 25 years and it wasn't stuck, but it sat in my shop for about 6 weeks this summer and it stuck a little. Same parts, I didn't change any of them as they look OK. It may be that the easiest way to get to the bottom of this one is to split the tractor. Please let us know how it turns out.
