Electronic ignition kits

I have a series IV D-17 that I'd love to convert to an electronic ignition. But the only conversion kits I've found specify negative ground. My tractor is positive ground...is there anything I can do? THANKS FOR ANY HELP!

You didn't mention the year of this tractor, but if it is a Series IV, I suspect it is a 12 volt system.

I converted my wd45 to 12 volt neg. ground electrical using an alternator. Pertronics has a 12 volt neg. ground electronic ignition kit for that application. I went one step further and put on an MSD 6A amplifier and Blaster 2 coil and went with msd 8.5 mm plug wires sparking autolite gapped to .050. It starts in a about half a crank when cold, and it can actually start when hot simply by pulling on the kill switch. No plug fouling, no loose plug wires, super easy to start, idles smooth with no pops and at a lower rpm, and a quick smooth rev. worth every penny and very simple to wire up, took about 1 hr to set it all up.

I have the Pertronix kit on my Ford Jubilee, which is 6V positive ground. They did recomend a special coil to go with it, which I bought from them. It works great !

I believe Pertronix sells an electronic ignition module that you can specify for positive ground. In any event, it is easy to convert your tractor to negative ground. Simply reverse the battery leads, repolarize the generator, reverse the coil leads, reverse the ammeter, and you are finished.

Negative ground has a few advantages - especially if you want to add an aftermarket radio or other such negative ground accessory.
