i have a a/c b thak i recently rebuilt. in fact, i just got it done yesterday. it ran so nice all day yesterday and this moring. but this afternoon, i went to restart it, it wouldn't turn over so we decided to pull start it. but when i let the clutch out, the tires just skidded on the road. then i put the crank in it and tried that- i turned so hard that i bent the pin in the crank. what could this possibly be- there was no water in the oil or vice versa and oil was mking its way to the top. btw it did have oil press. up in the normal range. thanks for the help.

well guys, i tried taking out the plugs, nothing. remover the valve cover to see if it dropped a valve-all good checked the starter-it was free. finaly i removed the oil pan and removed a main cap- it was junk. i must have set the main clearence too tight. however, the rod bearings were ok. if i set the rods and mains using the same procedure, why did the mains fail and not the rods? thank very much for your help guys.

Hope your crank is not scored? If crank out of round could eat up bearings also. Maybe not getting oil to the mains? I set mine with plastigage and have never had a problem.

Did you use plasti-gauge? What clearance did your bearings have when you set them?

I would follow WD Tom's advice. Get the plugs out and see if it turns over. Any large amount of any fluid in any cyl will lock it up. Check this before you tear it down.

I rebuilt a c and it did the same thing. Turned out to be the crank bearings were to tight. Ran for a bit and locked right up on me. Before pulling the engine, take off the oilpan cover and start loosening all bolts one at a time till the crank frees up...

I was going to suggest thet you check your starter. It may have been locked. But I discarded that notion when you said that you were able to turn the engine somewhat with a hand crank. I suspect that what happened is that you didn't set your ring gap. As the engine warmed up, the rings seized. Try the simple solutions that the others mentioned, but if they all fail to resolve this, you'll need to open the engine again.

had a john deere do that once, the carb leaked and filled cylinder with gas and it would not roll over, pull spark plugs out and try rolling it over.

Remove the sparkplugs and try and turn it over, see if water comes out. Might be a leaky head gasket.
