hello all, i've been working on a 47 B. the thermostat housing was frozen and broke out the back. i brazed the back on and remachined the gasket face and all seems ok. my question is about the thermostat. it has an A-C # 219737. strange looking critter. does anyone have a diagram what it's supposed to look like? also i need to know what all went in there. i have a small piece of spring but most of it is rotted away. where could i purchase new parts for that repair? there are no dealers anywhere close to me that i know of. (york, PA) thanks in advance, greg

Greg,
When I was restoring my 48' B a few years ago I came across the same problem. I ordered a new thermo from AGCO, figuring that it would have the same goofy looking thermo, and when I opened the box to my surprise the thermo was a standard looking thermo for a V8 Chevrolet! I already had 10 of those on the shelf! (now I had 11) Sooo, I tested the OEM thermo which still worked, so I re-installed it. So far, 3 years later, it's still working. As for the spring, mine was also rusted through and broken, so being in the electrical business, I walked over to the starter bench and pulled out a GM bendix starter solenoid spring and matched it up. Viola! Perfect fit! Sometimes ya just gotta improvise....

I have to apologize. Was reading the JD board first and thinking JB model B Age is catching up!

I have a 48 WD and you can pick up the thermostat at most any auto parts place, NAPA usually has them. AGCO also has them. Don't know if the B is the same as the WD or not.

As far as I know those year tractors had the thermo-siphon system, no water pump, no thermostat. That is what the shutters are for, to control temp on a cold day.
