Hi Wilburn,

I am not sure what you mean by "it will not crank". Are you saying it won't even turn over? If it is a mag ignition the fact that it has been converted to 12v has nothing to do with the ignition, only the starter. If it will turn over with the starter, then look into the magneto spark. Pull one of the plugs and ground it. Turn the engine over while watching the plug gap. If you get a spark, next thing to investigate would be the timing. Also check that you have fresh fuel and there is no indication of moisture in the fuel bowl.

The point gap is 0.015"- 0.020". Plugs are 0.030"- 0.040". Firing order is 1,2,4,3 with #1 at front of engine. Timing details (external and internal) for an FMJ magneto are in this pdf file. There are two timing marks on the flywheel observable through the opening (about 1" in dia.) on the left side of the torque tube. If you use the advance spark position method identified in the pdf file, you use the "fire" mark. If you use the impulse coupling trip method, you use the "center" mark. As the pdf file indicates, make sure your #1 piston is coming up on the compression stroke and not the exhaust stroke.

To find the year of your B, find the serial number next to the gear shift lever and go to the serial number link under "research and info" on the left of your screen at this site.
