Is there a way to remove the play in the steering on a tricycle WD45. I have removed the cover over the worm gear but can't see anything that might adjust the worm gear.

As the other David says you can remove that input worm shaft. There are shims behind that plate that holds the worm in the bearings etc. On my WD, changing the number of shims tightend my steering up to like new, no wobble at all.

The play in them is usually in the steering universal joint under the frame rail. Often does not get greased when the rest of the tractor does. The joint itself and the two pins that hold it to the shaft often wear and get sloppy. That is where I would start. Parts are available. There are also shims for the worm bearing play but now you are getting into needing a manual.

Suggest you take the worm gear out by removing the bolts on the casting around the steering input shaft. Check the pin that holds the worm gear to the shaft. It may be worn, also check the hole in the shaft. The worm gear will not be worn since it is case hardened. If either are worn you can easily make a new shaft from 7/8 cold rolled round and new pin from a cold rolled 3/8 rod. Resinstall and adjust end play.
