I have a late model WD with the WD-45 clutches and gears and I want to beef the engine up to pull. What is the top hp out of my engine without putting several thousand dollars in it. Where can I buy the parts to overhaul the motor. Thank.

To gain significant HP, you will really need to put a WD-45 kit in that tractor. Since you would be talking about a new crankshaft, pistons, sleeves, among other things, you are easily going to be well up past the $1,000 mark.

If it is allowed by the rules of where you are pulling, you would probably be better off installing a WD-45 or D17 engine. I've heard the 301 combine engine is pretty hefty too. I'd bet you can pick the complete engine up cheaper than you can upgrade your old engine.

Rules may prohibit you from using an engine block and/or head that wasn't stock for that tractor. If so, you may as well just look for a WD-45 tractor.
