I am trying to identify an old AC that has been on my Dad's farm. THe serial number is C24529. Also what year is this? I am confused because it has a narrow front end but someone put a B decal on it years ago after it was repainted.

You have to remember too that by now a tractor like this could be quite a mix of B, C, CA parts. Many are interchangable. I am talking engines, transmissions, axle housings, front ends, and any body can put any decal on any tractor. You never know for sure what is could have been. For instance you could put a C transmission into a B, Then years later find a C engine too. Now you have a C, but wait, you still have the narrow axle housings. And what about the arched B front end.

Looked up serial number, it's a 1944 C, in 1944 the numbers ran from 23908 to 30694.

Sounds like a C to me there were not any B's from the factory with a narrow front end.And the C at the front of the serial # gives it away.I have only seen one narrow front B and a guy had built it for pulling, Allis Chalmers never even offered it according to the owners manuals. If you need good decals get them from Lyle Wacker, he has a website. His decals are great, I put them on my B and my C. Good luck and enjoy your tractor

The serial number is 024529 not C24529, the back wheels on a C are 72 inches outside to outside, and the back wheels on a B are 60 inches outside to outside. The steering arm on a C down the leftside beside the engine, and a B streeing arm runs under the engine.

It's a C. I don't have my book handy - check the serial number reference on this site for the year. You can confirm it's a C by measuring between the inner sides of the two final drive drop-downs - C's were around 45 inches between the two finals, B's were around 33 inches. Of course like you said no B had a narrow front end ...

Thanks for the quick reply. I had suspicions it was a C but tried the serial number page and it didn't say anything about the prefix, it just gives the numbers. I am thinking of having it repainted again and want to get the correct decals. I had the head rebuilt last year and just had the starter and generator rebuilt. I am still trying to work out a problem with the carb. IT only runs with the choke almost all the way on. I treid a rebuild kit but it didn't do anything. I am thinking I need to find a new carb as the old one must have too much wear and tear to hold a seal on the jets.

Could also be an intake manifold leak, poor fuel flow (trash in the sediment bowl intake in the gas tank), or a loose venturi in the carb (see my not on the spark plugs below). Bet you've already checked most of that...!

I hadn't thought about an intake manifold leak but the other things I had checked out. I saw in another area of this sight where I can buy a rebuilt carb, and I may go that route.

The SN says it all. It's a C. Since decals fit nearly anything you put one on.... I wouldn't put too much into them as authoritative ID.

As for NF, there were even some B's with NF and C's with WF.
