Check the soft plugs in the head. I had water in the oil because one of them rusted thru..common occurance on a B.

the motor is called a "wet sleeve motor" this meams the cylinders are pushed into the block with o-rings on the bottom edge and are heald into position by clamping the cylinder head on the top. you need to remove the pistons and pound the liners out the top with a 2 x 4 and a big hammer. clean the block and lit real good, and replace the 2 orings on each liner and reinstall. that and a new head gasket will normally fix the problem. there is also a water jacket plug in the head under the cam shaft. make sure you see no holes in it.

Hairline cracks between the sleeves at the top are not a problem. Most of these blocks are cracked there and cause no problem. THey will be sealed by the head gasket. Look for a leaky o-ring, cracks in the the webbing between the sleeves at the bottom, cracked head, or a bad head gasket.

Thanks Dan, are the o-rings in the head? And how do I check the webbing?
