I have an Alice Chalmers WD. It looks like the serial # is WD 7360. Does this sound right and if so does anyone know what year this would be?? Also, I need a carburator ffor it. The other problem I had with it was that it would constantly come out of gear and you had to relocate the shifter lever all the time. Is there a cure for this.??
Thankyou.

remove the shift lever from the transmission. lots of times there is wear in the pivot and pins on the end of the rod. could be a smiple problem. pull it apart, maybe you can have it welde and file it down to get closer tollerance. you dont know till it comes apart.

If your serial # is correct it is a 1948. I have WD7775. Your transmission problems are fairly common and require some repairs that can get expensive if you can't find used parts that are in good shape. Larry Swenson, Bill Deppe or Norm Steinman should have the carb.

Those guys all advertise over on the "other" Allis Chalmers web site. Norm has a web site, www.normstoys.com. The expensive part is if you have to replace some gears in the trans to solve your shifting problems. Quite often some work to the shift tower and the shift lever will solve your problem, but it will take some investigating to figure it out. John
