Can anyone tell me who makes the engine used in fairly late model 653 dozers? I am looking at buying one and don't know much about them. Any common problems with the 653's? or anything special I should look for? Thanks.

The following data was obtained from Norm Swinford's excellent book on construction machinery: 653 Dozer 1970-1975 Replaced the HD4 Series, built at the Springfield plant. Used the same engine as the HD4, a 200 cu. inch 4 cylinder. A heavier track design was used in the 650 series—this increased weight from 8,500 #’s for the HD4 to 8,900 #'s. HP was 59 @ 2,100 RPM. With the 93-inch push beam angle dozer and hydraulics, the weight was 11,250 #’s. Since it was based on the HD4 design with improvements, I can't see it being a bad dozer. However, I don't own one so maybe someone out there who uses one can add some hands-on experience and comments.

Restoration Story: 1951 Farmall H - by The Red (John Fritz). I have been a collector of Farmall tractors since 1990 when I first obtained part of the family farm in Eastern Indiana. My current collection includes a 1938 F20, 1945 H, 1946 H, and the recently purchased 1951 H. This article will focus on what I encountered and what I did to bring the 1951 NEAR DEATH Farmall H back to life.
