Is my head still good?

Trying to rebuild a 230 Buda diesel from a WD45 diesel. The shop that I took the head to took it all apart and showed me cracks by each of almost every power cell in the head. He says that this is very bad and I will probably need a rebuilt head or this one fixed up. Is this true or is it a similar thing to the cracks in the upper webs of the block? If I need it fixed, where can it be done and for how much? My engine guy said a rebuilt head is $600-900 depending on manufacturer and their respective warranties. What do all of you guys think?

Chuck, I used to work in an engine machine shop for 5 years. we did pretty much everything, including fixing cracks in cyl. heads. doesn't matter what type of head it is, it's labor intensive. we did it by stop drilling the crack at both ends, then pinning it, afterwords it would need seats if the crack ran thru the seat area, and then to the resurface machine for resurfacing. Pinning is done by threaded tappered pins, that are overlapped by about 1/3 on each other. It's alot of labe due to the drilling of each pin, then running a tappered reammer before threading it with a special tappered tap. pin is then locktighted and installed and cut flush with the surface, then on to the next pin. hope this sheds light onto fixing cracks for you, good luck, Scott.
