B Model Oil Pressure

Where and how is this "feed tube" installed? What material and size is it?

Seems like I remember something like that on my 39 and 40 Fords.

As long as you are worrieid about oil pressure, check out that darn little oil line that goes up to the head from somewhere around the oil guage. This line supplies the only oil going to the head.

The amount of oil going to the head in somewhat metered by the small size of the line ( 1/8 inch th CU tubing I think ). The problem is that the line tends to plug, particulary with low oil pressure.

I have seen this cause two problems;

a.) The rockers and the rocker shaft wear out. When the rocker shaft wears out things degrade quickly. Only the back end of the head gets any lubrication. The oil to the front rockers goes through the rocker shaft and all leaks out before it gets there.
b. If the engine don't get used much there isn't enough oil around to keep things from rusting so you risk getting a stuck valve if its dry.

I recommend pulling the line at the head and letting it run a bit to be sure oil comes out. I do this at least once a year. I also recomend pulling the filler/breather cap off the valve cover and looking down the hole every now and then. It shoud always be wet with oil.

OK, so no new style NAPA 1101 or WIX 51101 filters. Where does that leave someone (me, perhaps) who wants to change the filter?
