B Model Steering Bushing

There's a bushing located at the upper end of the steering shaft jacket tube on the B. Anyone have one?

New but related subject: I imagine there is more than one source for b & g model replacement steering wheels. Please, let me know who they are.

Call Sandy Lake Implement, they can set you up quick with the right part. Beats all that work, price is not bad. Also they are a good group to know, they can tell you anything you want to know about a B!

I just went through this with my 38 B. I got on a friend's 16" South Bend and chopped one out of oilite bronze. It never occured to me to make it out of wood. I'm not unfamiliar with wooden bearings. I just wouldn't have looked for it there. When I used to make wooden bearings for an old disc harrow I had, I would use a branch from a standing dead Maple tree. I 'm not sure if this was better than the oak, But it worked fine for me. I would imagine that Locust would work equally well. Regards, Rich

Said hard wood. I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between Oak and Maple in a bung that size. {:^D

That looks like satisfying work. Good looking too, I bet.

Tony just advised use of a shock bushing. What a great tip is that.

I am not sure if you can get replacement bushing made exactly for there or not but I have taken several apart that had a bushing made from oak. They used oak for many years a bushings/bearings in disks. I put them back in with a shot of grease.
