Is it necessary to remove the timing cover to replace the front crankshaft seal on the 1939 B? I have a manual but it is not clear on this.

I have replaced them without removing the cover when they have the new style seal that needs replaced. Not sure it can be done if it has the old cork style seal. Might be hard to get a seal remover locked under the edge to slip it out, I never tried one of those so it might be easyer than I think. Taking the cover aint a real big deal but it will take three gaskets.
