I am trying to find out what weight and what kind of oil to use in the transmission. It is a 1964 Allis Chalmers D-10 Series III. Any help would be appreciated.

the transmission, bevel gear compartment and hydraulic system are common on this tractor. originally it was probably 20 wt motor oil. today most people would use a 20wt hydraulic-transmission fluid like "hy-trans". you can get it at Wal Mart or any farm store. It has special additives compared to normal motor oil such as anti-foam and rust inhibitors. will take 8 to 12 quarts depending on if you have hydraulics, traction booster, etc.

Today's Featured Article - Major Problems - by Anthony West. Following the aquisition of the two Fordsons to my collection I found that I was struggling to move them about. I had considered the possibility of driving the "F" to and from shows but anything other than local rallies was totaly impractical due to its sedate pace. I had also considered buying a landrover and trailer, but the price of a ... [Read Article]
