Allis WC shifter question

I picked up a Allis WC parts tractor for a few good parts for my restoration project. Both are 1945's, about 10,000 difference in the serial #'s. I have checked my data book, manuals, and the book "original Allis Chalmers" to no avail....

What I am wondering is the parts model has a set up on the shift lever (that seems very factory, or Allis made perhaps... ) that is made up of 2 pieces, 1 attaches to the shift lever, the other to the transmission top housing, and seems like it keeps the lever from wiggling about as 1 part slides in a slot on the other.

I want to know if this is factory, or just some sort of repair, or was it even allis?

I believe that was an add-on to take the slop out of the shifter. Wish my 37 had it. Gearshift flops so much it hits me in the knee. lol

The WC had a small lever on the shift lever, which was activated when you wanted to shift into reverse. If everything was tight and original, when you needed to shift into reverse, you needed to squeeze the small lever next to the shift ball to move the lever further to the right, to get it into reverse. With age and wear, the lever might just move far enough by itself. (Like my '37 does, until I fix it). Actually, it's a good thing- it helps you to find third and fourth gear!
