Hello. Need some advice on my B> When I engage the mower (L59Woods Bros) My B starts to break up a little, or when I snag a gear and drop the clutch a little or do anything to put a load on it. I have put a.c. Delco plugs (couldnt get the autoltes,so i crossed refed'), took the carb apart, ( I have good fuel Delivery), the gas is new, and its never givin me trouble before so I dont think its gaskets or rings. Just started all the sudden. Dont want to spend a bunch throwing money at things to try everything. Thought some of you vetrans could point me in the right direction. Thanks Terry

As Steve said - Plugs. As far as I know AC Does not make plugs for a mag fired B anymore. Autolite 295 is what everyone seems to recommend any more for mags or 303 for dist. Also use solid plug wires. The carbon core ones are also a no-no for mags.

Hi Terry, I hope you didn't put resistor plugs in the engine of your B. That's a no-no if ya did. If there's an "R" in front of the plug number, they're resistor. Also, if your B is mag fired, it might have the condenser starting to fail, causing it to stumble. I would first check to make sure you didn't put in resistor plugs. They to, cause goofy problems. We have the Autolite's if you can't find them locally. Also, check the gap on the points and give them a little cleaning. Check the simple stuff first....HTH

Steve, maybe you can confirm my diognosis of the problem with my B. It is a restored 1938, overhauled engine. starts and runs good cold. starrts to miss after it us well warmed up. won't start hot. this condition is getting worse. I replaced the champion plugs with new autolite and it helped some but didn't eliminate the problem. I think the problem is either the condenser or the coil in the mag. my guess would be to change the condenser first and see if that cures the problem.

am I on track?

Keith, Yes, I would definetely do a condenser change first before condemming the coil. Seems the coil always takes the rap for condenser or contact troubles. Not saying that it's never the coil, because on occasions they to, go bad. Especially the OEM tar covered coils. Coils aren't cheap. Condensers are. As Dave said, I think your on the right track also. Go for it!

I think you are on the right track with a condender. My WD did the same thing until I replaced the condenser (Mag ign)

maybe I should add that cold starting usually requires 2 quarter turns. 1/2 to 3/4 throttle, full choke for the first. it will pop. cut back to half choke and do it again and it starts. runs good for a half hour or so then starts missing. gets worse as you keep on running. with the new plugs it doesn't die for me. but it shouldn't be missing when I am using it to rake hay.

also look at the governor arm and spring at the front right side of motor. see that all looks well and moves free. is the rod aroudn front end and back to carb free and no problems? could also be an internal spring in governor, if carb and plugs check out o.k.
