fluid in rear tires!!!

Hello fellows, i posted a comment about 10 days ago or so on brush cutting with the WD45 and thanks to all who gave me some very good comments!
still learning about allis tractors because they are new to me, you can tell by me email i'am a john deere fan but going towards allis because they are a good work horse and you can save a lot of $$$ over a john deere and they still perform the same... now for my question...i have fluid in my 16.9 X 27, and it is getting a little rusty by the valve...should i take the fluid out or leave it in, i plan to get smaller tires because these tires are big and i want to be able to blow snow in the winter with my 7' blower and i know i will probably need chains also. i was going up a hill last week and my front end was getting light with a brush cutter on the rear and i have a wheel weight on the front of the frame to help keep it down...i don't know if this is common or i did not know how to use the traction booster. i'am also looking for a set of original weights for the front...say around 300 lbs. or so. i think ea. weight is about 75 lbs. you gus know correct me if i'am wrong.

My father purchased new, a 1937, WC, Allis Chalmers in 1938. We still have the tractor and it has been set aside for the last 30 years. My dad retired from farming and has kept the tractor with the calcium cloride left in the tires. Both tubes leaked and both rims are destroyed from rust and have to be replaced. I would like to suggest that you remove the tires from the rims, clean the rims of the cloride, inspect the rims for rust damage and if "OK", paint the inside of the rims with a rust preventive and allow to throughly dry, replace the inner tubes, and remount the tire you wish to use. I would try to use the rear mounted blower without the fluid in the tires and use chains with weights distributed as needed over the tractor. I wish you luck and many years of enjoyment.

The WD-45 will need the fluid in the tires for plowing....AND the front tires should ALSO be loaded with fluid....!! Even with the front tires loaded, I have to add about 100 lbs to the front....and it will still lift the front sometimes. ( I pull 4x14" )... The traction booster should not work when set to lift equipment..only when set for weight transfer... I have removed ALL the washer-spacers from the bolts that hold the spring, in the hitch..this helps delay the weight transfer some... It is not uncommon to have to hold the hand clutch in, when plowing...helps to keep the front end down, too...!! A GOOD WD-45 WILL spoil ya....!! Pound for Pound, the BEST Choice for a Powerful, compact tractor...!! Get a "Snap-Coupler" 3-point hitch for it, and then you can use for almost Anything....!!

WOW, 4x14 plow! What kind of land are you in(i.e. sand, clay or black earth)? I had no idea a WD-45 could handle a 4x14. Always put them in the 3 plow class.

It depends a lot on if the plow is properly "scoured".....We have all kinds of soil here...Clay, Yellow Wax, Black Wax....the usual... Only time I stay out of the field is when the Black Wax is hard as concrete.....!! That is when I start to break coverboards, and hardly can get any traction from the hard ground....!! Dad's '57 WD-45 came with a semi-mounted 4x14" plow, and I put one on mine, also... We can get a lot done, with 8 furrows turning at the same time..!! We use less gas with 4 bottoms..always in 2nd gear...works a lot better than 3 bottoms in 3rd gear....!! Tires need to be at least 50%, and all wheels loaded--weight on the front is good, too... Perfect balance of power to load...!! Don't under-estimate the power of a WD-45..it has Great Torque....!!! You won't see many 100 horse tractors pulling an 8 bottom plow....!!!! We can turn 50 acres in a good day...on 3 tanks of gas a piece. You just have to set the power screw about 1/4 turn richer, to get a BIG boost in power...!! I run it leaner when mowing, baleing, etc.. Stands a flame about 12" above the muffler, when plowing...top half of muffler red, and the front end riding "light"...!! Often plow at nite without the lights, if there is a little moonlight...!! Can see better than with the lights on...!! I use a #37 International disc and harrow..use duals with that...Tractor looks wider than it is long, but will almost Float.....!! Lots less slippage..always in 3rd gear... Use the JD"B" with a "Soil Surgeon" over plowed ground to level it...Great Tool.....!! Just add weight as needed, and handy to put rocks on, too...!!

Calcium-chloride seems to be a certain death sentence for wheels. I don't know if changing the valve core periodically would prevent that or not.

What I do know is that some people wanting fluid ballast in their tires have switched to anti-freeze. It seems a logical choice, because it resists freezing (which is why the calcium solution is used instead of plain water in colder climates) and it has built-in rust inhibitors. If it does leak, it'll just be a little sticky and probably discolor the paint. I read a story about a farmer who got all the used anti-freeze he needed from an auto shop, and then he strained it all himself to get rid of any debris that got in there when it had been drained. It cost him pennies per gallon for the used stuff and made up an apparatus to fill the tires himself.

May be something for you to consider if you're on the fence about putting liquid back in when you get those new tires.
