When going down the road in forth gear the wheels shake. Can anyone tell me why and how can I correct the problem? Only the front wheels shake

dont go down the road in 4th gear and you wont feel the tires shake. its easy also to get a trailer to move it around with.

Is it possible you have a bent rim? We have a farmall H with banged up rims that gets wild on blacktop.

I have just rebuilt 3 WD's with the same problem in the past month. The most common problem of the 3 were worn keyway's on the steering shaft. I did find one with loose wheel bearings but after adjusting them , the keyway on the shaft was the problem. All 3 had a good keyway's in the spindle block. I made new spindles but if you aren't able to do that, weld the key in place on the spindle or peen the edges of the slot to tighten up the groove. They all add up..... ...

Check the universal joint in the steering for play, check for play in the pins that hold the shafts together at the u joint. These are the simplest and most common causes of this. If everything is tight then at the point where the steering shaft enters the steering box on the front there are shims behind that plate which adjust for wear in the mating of the sector and worm gears. Add or remove shims to get rid of slop in the worm-sector gear mating, this is what was my problem on my WD. Sandy Lake sells the shims or you can make your own.

If everything else in the steering system is tight, check the tapered bearing at the bottom of the pedestal- they scallop out and make the wheels shake, worse on hard surface roads than on dirt.
