My new (old) D-14 is supposed to be able to let the PTO (bush hog) run while I stop the tractor. I thought the seller told me when I have the hi-lo lever in the middle, and push in the clutch, the PTO will continue to run allowing me to inch up the tractor if I need to. This doesn't seem to work. I'm new to this - is this supposed to work?
Also there's a small push-in type pedal on the right side - close to the tranny body. Can't figure out what this does.
Thanks for any help!

Hi Jeff,,

Other posters have done a good job of explaining the clutch situation. They are right, you don't have a two stage clutch, like some tractors. The other small pedal on the right side is most likely the snap-coupler release. Some D-14's have a small rod that is alongside the transmission and others have a small foot pedal. The pedal is probably attached to a short piece of chain under your tractor to release the snap-coupler.. You can remove the drawbar by pulling to two support pins, then having someone push the pedal down and you will be able to pull out the drawbar. Then you are able to connect to other snap-coupler implements.
Hope this helps,
Dick

Most D-14's seem like they are still in low-range when the power director is in the middle when cold. You may actually need to brake a little to get the desired 'inch-forward' action. When warm, you inch forward by pulling back slowly toward the low range position. Although similar in concept to letting a regular clutch out slowly, it was designed for this and does not wear.

Exactly! I was going up a hill and my forward motion 'died' - the lever was in the middle.
Thanks.

Jeff, The lever placed in the middle should stop the forward movement of the tractor.Should be able to inch along with lever if you push it forward or pull it rearward. Foot clutch is for changing gears, don't depress it while you are using the power director lever. The little pedal by your right foot is for locking the brake petals. With both brakes pedals pressed you should be able to pull a lever to swing this forward and lock the brakes. If you can't inch the tractor with the lever it may need adjusting. Make sure your fluids are good in the power director compartment. Manuals (operator and service) might be a good idea. Jeff, I'm assuming the D-14 is similar to the D-15 as I don't have a D-14 yet! HTH Dale
