I am a deployed US Marine overseas and have been hit by the antique tractor bug. I have found what appears to be a nice AC WD 1951 in IA in excellent condition for $1800.00 Is this s good price? I also have several questions about attachments and any adivce someone could offer a want-a-be farmer. We have a 160 acre farm in IL that I plan to keep the tractor at as well as others in the future as my collection grows.

Hi Tim,
I just bought my first AC WD last week. It seems from the serial # that it is a 1950 model with a wide front,good paint, new rubber, another block, a 45 probably and 3PT. I am still shaking it out but seems to have a lot of power and runs like a top.

How much did you give for her and was she restored or not? This one I am looking at is restored and in excellent shape for 1800.

Tim,
This tractor was an older restoration with new rubber. I gave $1800 and I thought with the condition, power, and rubber that it was cheap. Try buying a 40 hp. independent PTO, 3PT annything and you are going to pay $3500 plus.
If it does what you want and you like it, go for it . I have several other color tractors and they all do a certain thing well. I like most any tractor and have been buying and selling, trading and collecting.

I have seen a lot of not very good WDs sell for that much money and I have seen some very good ones sell for less than that. In my opinion the WDs are a reliable tractor and that is not a bad price for the horesepower and service one could expect. Having said that what are you willing and able to pay? You will more than likely get a lot of advice that contradicts what I have said but when I buy something I decide what it is worth to me and me alone and if I am able to spend the money in question at that time I make the deal if I do not have the money then I do not worry about what it might be worth. I just do not buy it even if it is a great deal.

I would say that's a bit high. A restored, and well running machine might bring that, but I would expect an exceptionally nice tractor for 1800. More like 800-1200 for a quality running Wd, at least here in Oklahoma. Location plays a great deal in price though.
