Thanks to all who responded to Message #1. I'm getting smarter!!

Next questions: 1) Did Allis change colours from its original diahria orange to persian orange in a certain year or was it by product line? 2) Did they ever have a darker orange with a bluish tint, or is the B I am looking at have a very expensive paint job using the wrong colour? 3) What's with the blue and white decals? Did Allis have them for a while? 4) What do you experts out in the electronic back 40 use to "unstuck" and engine?

With all this new found information, I will soon be able to offer my services as a consultant!!

Ralph, The guys already hit the color thing and unstick thing,I have had good luck with a mixture of Marvel Mystery oil and diesel 1/2 + 1/2

Hi Ralph,

LOTS of different shades of oranges out there on Bs. As Steve says, the shade originally used on the B has a brownish tint similar to that of a pumpkin. You'll see a lot painted with the later, redder, brighter version because that is the one that seems to be more readily available without mixing. I've never noticed one with a bluish tint though :o). Steve's got it on the paint. As for the "unstuck juice".... there are lots of home brews and some work better than others. I use two off-the-shelf products called PB Blaster (available at NAPA, WallMart and various parts stores) and KROIL. Both work very well but as with all stuck things, you have to give plenty of penetration time. 3 to 5 days is not too long to unstuck a block. Regularly spray the pentrant and tap the parts with a mallet to help work it into the joints. After several days, try working the part back and forth with a wrench to try to get it to wiggle. Once it starts moving, it's just about unstuck.

Ralph, Pursian Orange #1 was used on all tractors in the 1940 and 1950 era. Dont matter waht model it was. THis is a brownish orange, light. LIke the guys said PPG 60080 is a close match. Problem is quite a few guys paint the old Bs and WDs with #2 which was for the D series in the early 1960. Not correct. The later orange, Corporate Orange was even more of a red color. THe decals were originally blue and later changed to black. I dont remember the exact year, early 1940's. Dont let a pretty paint job fool you, lots of guys fall for that. Chekc out the oil level for water, try to rock the rear wheels on the axle for looseness of the splines, look at the condition of the wiring harness, tire condition. You can remove the starter and bar the motor over with a prybar on the flywheel teeth if lightly stuck. Not saying dont buy, just be careful. Maybe the guy will help pull starter and bar it over for proof.
