Cody,

As far as I know the D17's were made long before Fiat's involvemment with Allis Chalmers. The D17 diesel was a Buda engine design bought by AC. The gas engine was an AC design with distributor ignition.

I'm on the road so I can't check any books I have on the AC engines. If anyone else wants to comment or correct me, no problem here.

Fial bought a portion of the construction machinery division about 1975. At first they made the small 70 to 150 HP loaders and dozers and just sold them along side the larger AC dozers and loaders. Due to money matters they were the major force of Fial-Allis about 10 years later. By that time they were having their larger diesel motors shipped to Illinois and installed in some of the dozers and loaders up to about 300 HP. THey never were a part of the farm tractor line. Later in life AC mized up with Duetz, then AGCO on the farm tractor side. THe D series was built in the early 1960 prior to Fiat.-----YOur problem sounds like you need a to rebuild the carburetor. Idles, but will not pull under load?
