AC Paint colors

Have matched the paint on a "B" serial # B112294 that is supposed to be the correct color..... I have a AC "G" serial # G22379 that I painted off the color of the "B"..... After 3 months of what I was told was backorder problems I got a spray can of (by the parts book) Persian Orange (part number 79014664) I was told this is the color that both tractors are supposed to be. This paint was gotten from the AC dealer. It is made by AGCO. The only problem is the paint I put on the tractor that was matched from the "B" is not the same. I'm useing U-Tec poly paint for the painting of the tractors. Can anybody help me out.....????? ??? Thanks, Keith

The Krylon #1820 AC orange is very very close to the original Persian Orange of the 50s and to the PPG 60080. You may be able to get a Krylon dealer to order you a case. I bought 6 cans on ebay and was well pleased with the color. The Van Sickle paint company also has Persian Orange original color available but I have not seen it and it usually has to be ordered. They have a web site so you can find a dealer in your area. I am planning on having my local dealer order me a gallon and will use it on my implements as a test.

Got a question? Have you guys got an A C dealer in your area? If so what does he sell (name brand) that is supposed to match the orginal part # for the paint that comes from the parts book? Thanx, Keith

Dave, You're correct about that number #1820. It's in the "Farm and Implement" Series of paints with JD green and yellow, Massey Red, School bus orange etcetra. My Hardware guy says it'll be in next week. Regards, Rich

Remember too that lot numbers on paint can vary. Try to buy what you need all at the same time, and get the same lot or batch numbers. Equiment can vary and batch to batch may be different.

I'm going through this also. They all look good till you get up close. My first attempt was with Benj. Moore's "Allis Chalmers Orange" I was so fed up trying for perfection that I said gimme the darn stuff and whatever it comes as will be it. While in this less than satisfied mood I stumbled onto Krylon Farm and implement spray cans in the local hardware store. It seemed even closer so i bought him out and five spray cans just isn't enough. I need about three more. This is all going on my 1938 Mod B. I'm first doing a coat of Ben Moore's Rust converter. Then a coat of iron oxide primer. Then the Ben moore AC orange as a first coat. Then I'm spraying the Krylon over that. It's looking pretty good. I left the inner part of the PTO pulley original for future matching if needed. I hope this helps Rich

If there is a DuPont, or PPG/Ditzler dealer near you check these DuPont Persian Orange codes for 1929-1958 model "B" Allis Chalmers, 008 D (661-008). PPG/Ditzler Persian Orange # 1 code 60080.
There are about a dozen other Orange/Persian Orange codes for different models of AC tractors!
