PTO just made like a grenade and sent chunks everywhere. Case is OK but it looks like most everything in the case is junk, also the gear inside the main housing of the tractor, the one the PTO runs off of is missing some teeth. Rebuilding the PTO doesnt look too bad but what problems will I encounter with the gear inside the main housing? Is this going to be a real bear to do? Is that 90 wt in there? Smelled like it.Are parts readily available for this machine or should I plan a trip to the salvage yard? Any help is much appreciated and thanks in advance. Paul (Iowa)

We have had this happen to our ACs more than once. We used to split the tractor to replace the gear in the torque tube. The last time it happened the mechanic fixed it without taking the tractor apart but I do not know how he did it.

Be sure to use a Slip-clutch, and loose enough that it CAN slip if you hit something..!! I set mine just tight enough that it will hold full power, but is ready to slip to take out any shock....!! Those governors are Wicked ( but Great)...!!

Which ever parts you get...HAVE THEM Magnafluxed, to make sure they are GOOD..!! Have the lower gear case magnefluxed...usually an "ear" breaks off... Use Only a WD-45 gear case...it is stronger... You only want to do this Once.....!!! Sorry to hear you had this happen, but it can be repaired...!! Keep her working..... .!!!!! Ron.

You will be taking the engine out and the casting with the pto on it out. I would suggest you get a repair manual, an AC reprint is best, the I&T manuals are sort of general and cover a few models and they have about the same number of pages as an AC manual. New or used parts should be available.
