I have determined that the noise I hear is from the rear end. I was wondering how much is normal? I am not familiar with A\C and wondered if I shoud dive into it or leave it be,it sees very little use but has a little noise while pulling the hay wagon. Thanks

My '38 whines quite a bit in 3rd but is quieter in 2nd or 1st.

Here's a way to determine gear health in a working transmission. At your next gearbox oil change, drop a magnet in the waste oil pan and let it sit overnight. Pull it out the next day and if it's covered with fuzzy metal particles or shavings, you probably have a wear problem.

My 48' B's tranny whines a bit, especially headin' down the lane in high gear. Not sure if the rear makes any noise, can't hear it over the trans. Seems to be okay, hasn't spit anything out, or come to an abrupt stop yet. Coarse, I hope it doesn't come to an abrupt stop, it's not air bag equipped.....

I think noise (a whine) in third is normal.

My 49 B has rear noise, with final drives and all there will always be some noise. I haven't had any indication its a problem, been like that for 10 years.

My 1949 has *no* noise in the rear at all, my 1950 has quite a lot from the tranny. Another fellow I know has been using his B with lots of tranny noise for many years - he just keeps the fluids up on it. FYI for what it's worth ....
