Bear in mind, this is my first rebuild. Got a kit to replace the sleeves, pistons, and rings. Having problems understanding the ring instructions - they say that the dot and bevel side are up. But the bevel side is on one side and the dot is on the other - that side is up?

TIA

Be sure to use Plenty of non-hardening Permatex around the "O"rings, and web areas at the bottom of the water jacket...this will help prevent water seepage, should a web ever crack...

My can says "Aircraft Sealer"...made by Permatex.

While the engine is out, replace the front seal just behind the clutch...it often seeps hydrolic oil, and the engine has to come out to replace it....!! I hope you got the 4 1/8" kit.!! You will have a FULL 4-plow tractor...!! I used the D-17 kit...it has more compression..... Had to go to 12 volts, to spin it, but it IS a Powerhouse....!!!

Drawing from 30+ yrs. experience, Butch gave the correct info. Also be sure the gaps are not lined up.

Ring rules of thumb. If the ring has a dot it always goes up. In the absence of dots, outside bevel down, inside bevel up.

Well it sounds like they want the bevel up, the dot shouldn't matter

WRONG! Butch is correct, and as trivial as this may seem, it will make or break the re-ring job. If the rings are intalled wrong side up, it will have poor compression, and pump oil!

Most ring sets come with illustrated instructions. Be sure to follow them exactly and DO NOT PROCEED without clear instructions for YOUR ring set.

The dot is on one side, and the inside bevel is on the other. The packet that the rings came in, say both are to be up.

Very confused...

TIA
