I am rebuilding a engine for an Allis Chalmers G tractor, and I pulled the tractor in third gear for about one block at 5 mph to see if the engine has oil pressure. The engine did not start. I do not have oil pressure, and I need your help and ideas of why. 1. I took the engine to a professional overhaul shop who put the block in a furnace as part of the rebuild. The engine has new camshaft, connecting rod, and crankshaft bearings. 2. I installed the new oil pump with the gaskets provided with the pump. One gasket between the block and oil pump plate, and one gasket between the oil pump plate and the oil pump housing. I believe I did verify that the oil pump drive pin was good.
3. Before I installed a new oil pressure gauge, I pumped about one cup of oil into the oil gauge tube hoping that the oil would lubricate the bearings and prime the oil pump. I did install the oil pickup tube from the block into the oil pan, and I put in 3 ½ quarts of oil. My questions are:
If the rebuilder put the block in the furnace and did not remove the oil pressure adjustment mechanism, could the mechanism have been melted or ruined? If Yes, can I replace the parts. In case the new oil pressure gauge is bad, I plan to remove the oil pressure gauge to see if oil is pumped out. Does the oil pump need to be primed to draw oil from the crankcase up to the oil pump? Do I need to pull the engine and verify the oil pump pin again?

Thank you for your help.

Dennis--I have the same problem with my Allis G. When I put shims in the relief valve, it makes oil run out under the tractor from someplace. Appparently the pump builds up pressure and forces the oil out some place else. If you find an answer to your problem, would you please e-mail me and I will do likewise if I can find a cure. Thanks rrice@ccrtc.com Thanks

Relief valve is located on the flange of the block near oil gauge ,1" plug ,it may be removed by use a big screw driver. Check spring for its free length which should be 2" . Plug 800278,Gasket 800279,Spring 800277,Valve 800276. Ronnie
