Scott, I took the engine to a machine shop that had put in a new backing syestem. They bake the engine to free up all the crud and oil buildup. The engine block , head, or any other parts needing cleaned are placed in a tumbling pressureized shot blast chamber. After that it is placed in a high pressue high voulme washing chamber where all the shot is washed out. After that I had them rebore the cylinders, put in all new valve guides. I replaced all the intake valves and just had the exaust valves ground as they had been replaced an showed no wear. I sent the crank out and had it ground.
The way I look at restoring an old tractor is to take it completely apart and start as if it were a plastic model in a box. Take it one part at a time and put it back togather.
