How do I positivly identify the correct Allis Chalmers tractor mounted 1 bottom turning plow with coulter and it's mounting hardware for my 39B, with hydralics? I have located a possible, old faded Persian Orange paint and all. Dad had one on his 39 but time has faded his memory and mine. I remember reversing the drawbar for the front mount and ??? the lift hookup.

Hi Kenneth,

I have a pair (RH & LH) of mounted plows for my '42 B. They are not AC but are an aftermarket plow made by WIARD Plow Co. It is my understanding that there were several plow manufacturers that produced mounted plows for the B during the war years. Your memory of reversing the drawbar lends me to believe you might be thinking of a WIARD since that is what I have to do to mount mine. That's the standard AC B drawbar. The plows made by AC (much more common) do not use the standard drawbar but another arrangement that mounts in that forward drawbar position.

If the plow you are looking at is, in fact, a WIARD, it will have the raised letters WIARD cast into the frog. The main frame will also be of a clean rectangular cross section instead of shaped. In addition, the landslide will be cast instead of wrought.

Mine were originally a red color rather than an orange. I suspect the AC ones would be the real persian orange (the earlier version). Mine also are manual lift but I suppose they could also have been made for hydraulic lift. The AC ones were available with either manual or hydraulic.

Here's a picture of the WIARDS mounted on my B. Note the reversed standard drawbar. Here's a picture of the AC ones mounted on a C (B mount is similar). Note the major difference in lift mechanism behind the tractor seat that is not used for the WIARD mounting. If you think the plow you are looking at is a WIARD, I have some more pictures detailing the plow mounts if that would help you out. You might, however, be remembering a WIARD but are now looking at an AC one.

Hello Rod (NH) -I have been following the exchange between you and Ken regarding "Allis B Plow". I recently acquired a 1940 AC-B which came with a WIARD RH plow. I think I have all the parts, but I am not sure how to install the plow. You mention you have additional pictures showing the plow mounts. I would very much like to see those if possible. I note "posted by Rod (NH)." I live in the Concord area. Perhaps, if possible, I could come by and see things first hand. I have one specific question. If you have left and right hand plows, are both controlled by the same lifting and depth levers? As you can see, I am short on clues and would appreciate any help.

Rod Thanks for the B plow info. Saw pics of your L&R hand lift plows on earlier Re. My interest is only in the single right turning plow. Is the AC plow the same model for both the B and C tractor?
What is the AC plow manuel title or # if you have that information. Thanks Ken

Ken,

According to the information I have there is no particular model number designation for these pick-up plows. They are simply referred to as "B_C 1-Way & 2-Way Mounted Plows". That is the title on the AC manual for them. The number of this manual is TPL-178C. The cover is shown in one of the links in my first post in this thread. The cover shows the plows mounted on a C but a B is also included inside. I don't have the complete manual but do have some of the drawings in it that show the different mounting arrangements. The arrangements are different depending on whether it's a B or C and whether it's hydraulic lift or not. The plows themselves appear the same for both the B and C. The lifting and depth adjusting levers and mounts are different but similar. I do not know if they would be interchangeable between the B and C. I have no experience with these plows since mine are the WIARDs instead of the ACs.

Rod
Thanks again. Can you forward any of your manual pages that will help me gather all the correct hardware pieces necessary to mount the AC plow on my B? Email kgaggen aol.com

Rod, you said you may have more pictures of the plow hookup. I have two "C" and would like to see those pictures if possible. Could you please email them. THANKS Mike

Hi Mike,

I suppose I should have been a little clearer in my use of the term "pictures". I have some additional photographs showing the mounting components and installation of the manual lift WIARD plows on my B. I also have some drawings from the AC manual on the AC style B/C pick-up plows showing the components and installation of those plows on both a B and a C, with hydraulic and manual lifts.

Since I was not clear in that regard, I am now unsure which of the two types of plows you are interested in. Just let me know and I will try to help. You need to know that the drawings on the AC style are in a pdf file that is about 1.3 MB in size. Some ISPs do not permit email file attachments that large. I can break out just the drawings you might be interested in (C hyd lift only, for example) if you want to make the file smaller and faster to download (important if you are on a dial up connection).

You also will need to provide me your email address, since the default posts on this forum now hide that information. You have to specifically enable the feature to have your email address show in each post as you post it.

Rod, any help you can provide on the 'C" would be helpfull. I am currently redoing an 1945 "C" and then will start on an 1941. I have all the equipment available for the 1945 but no manuals to hook them up. so any help will be great. thanks
