WD bearings

I have what may seem a silly question. How are the bearing caps on a 50 WD wfe to be removed? It looks sort of like a large nut but I am unable to turn them, I tapped them lightly with a hammer but no movement. Are they threaded or just fit like automotive style bearing caps? I would like to regrease the bearings. Thanks Peter

They are a right hand thread, and should unscrew like any bolt, normally need a pipe wrench. Since you intend to repack the bearings, it wouldn't hurt to use a bit of heat from a torch if they are really stubborn.

As commented on, they just screw off. You can use a big pipe wrench on them if nothing else will loosen them.

the front wheel bearing caps screw on and off the same as a nut on any bolt does turn the cap to the left to remove them .

If they are in nice shape (most have been chewed up with a pipe wrench) you might try a good sturdy strap wrench to prevent marring.

Thanks, the caps are in undamaged condition thats why I wanted to ask before possibly doing damage. I have found a loader from a WD45 that is in good shape (no welding) and want to get the front end in order before trying to install it. Peter
