FRONT END REMOVAL HELP NEEDED

Can someone tell me what is involved in taking the tricycle assembly off the front of a C-model? I'm going to help a friend who wants to fabricate a wide front for it. I'm thinking there will be the shaft coming up into the front housing which will probably have a beveled gear that works off another beveled gear on the steering box. Can I anticipate a hard-to-get-to snap ring or some other trouble? Will there be a whole just big enough for the shaft to fit through, requiring me to remove the top nut and beveled gear. (That seems most likely, so everything can be shimmed.) Or will it be hollow in there, making it simple, and the whole front assembly just drop away from the front end (and the steering box) with just the removal of the bolts from that front casting? Or is the steering box attached the that font housing? I know someone has done this recently, so I'd sure appreciate being able to draw on your knowledge in advance. Thanks very much.
