governer gears blew up metal all over and down in main gears.Can shade tree mech.Fix this and does it involve a lot .Thanks carl

Other than replacing parts in the governor I would remove the front cover and clean, replace if necessary, the gears. Remove the pan and clean any metal out of it. Not too bad of a job, you didn't say which tractor though.

Would help if you have a book, don't remember if you said you did or not. Support the tractor well before taking the front end off. Front end parts can be heavy and hard to handle have help or a chainfalls or something. When putting the front cover back on you have to center the seal on the crankshaft I think, (that way on the larger wd engine anyway)so watch out for that. Slide the cover up/donw, right/left to center it before tightening the bolts. Ask questions here as you goif you need to.
