Don, I have a Series IV also. There are 2 (possibly 3) levers at the front of the large sheetmetal plate for the hydraulics.
The one nearest the fender is the 3-Point Lift. It's lever/knob is higher than the other(s)....see the last paragraph. The next one to the left (or in the middle if there are 3) is the 1st Remote Cylinder which has it's two (2) outlets on the right side of the 3rd link mounting plate on mine as viewed from the rear. If, in fact, there are 3 levers, then the leftmost one (nearest the operator) is the 2nd Remote Cylinder and would have outlets at the left side of the 3rd link. There are two "quadrant" type levers. The one nearest the fender is the Traction Booster. It has numbers inside of triangles that range from "1" to "7" with short arrows at the half-points. The "1" is to the rear of the tractor. This is used to adjust the amount of weight transfer that is desired for pulling 3-pt mounted implements.
(Earlier D17s had a different arrangement for the Traction Booster that made use of the Snap Coupler) The "quadrant" lever next to the operator is the 3pt Depth Control and has an adjustable wing-nut stop, but you'll notice it can be overridden.
It also has the same number arrangement as the TB lever. This is used to set the implement depth where desired and after the implement has been raised by using the 3-pt Lift lever as described earlier and then lowered, the 3-pt assumes this setting. Obviously, this setting is very useful for implement control and is typically used in conjuntion with the Traction Booster setting. It can also be used for setting the minimum height of forks or other types of lifts. Hope this helps, and if you want, I'll sketch up the layout for you. Gatz
