Exhaust cover on AC-B

I've grown tired of putting the can back over the exhaust pipe when I'm not running my B and it's outside. Can you just buy one of those flapper things and put it on or what? what are my options?

I like the look of those rain caps But if the wind is blowing out of the Wrong way they will flip open and close and then they arnt doing there job and it will amount to the same as if you forgot to put the can on exept there is no reminder when you walk past it that it was uncoverd Thomas

I kinda like the can. Especially when they fit just right over the stack.

Set the choke full and crank slow for a good three pulls. Now open the choke and pull a strong crank. It launches the can about 20' in the air and really pleases the kids. Especially if you act like you don't know what just happened.

Hi Wickman,

It depends on your muffler. If you have the underhood style with the elongated outlet as I used to, you are probably limited to the can (as I was). However, if you have the round thru-the-hood or above hood style with a round outlet, you certainly can use one of those gravity flappers. That's what I have been doing for the last 30 years or so since I changed over to the later muffler style on my '42 B.

You should be able to get 'em at about any tractor dealer. I got mine at a local farm store. I believe they are "officially" called rain caps. They come in different sizes for different size exhaust tubing. I think the tubing on a B is 1.5" OD but check yours to make sure. They may even sell them on-line in the parts section of this site; I don't know.
