Was going to use my 180 on the planter this year (just bought it) got everything ready to go and found out that the 180 would not raise a full planter (4 row new idea) had to switch all fittings to JD to get the job done, it was a little embrassing for the AC. Sorry just thought I would share that story.

I have folks around me who all own JD tractors and equipment. With my old Allis, I had to paint the underside of my 180 green so it would fool my crops into higher production,so I could keep up with the Jones's.What a way to live????

Well, well, well I certainly didn't intend to jerk everyone's chain. I probably farm more acres(1900 acres along with 700 acres of hay) w/ more AC's (7060,7040,7010,220,200 and 180) than anyone who thought it was a putdown of the Orange. It was simply amazing to me that the 180 would not pick up the planter(NI frame with Kinze units) with 700# of dry fert. and 8 bags of seed corn. I wasn't putting it down, so everyone can just chill.

Yep, I feel your pain rob. I hate it when spring just shows up out of the blue and I don't have any of my equipment ready to make a living....

Well, let me say something here and I am not trying to put anyone down. First, I know nothing about the Allis model in question so I won't even discuss that. We used to farm with both AC and JD and, if maintained properly, they both did what they were built to do. What I will say about my own experiances in the past two years is that I now have a 1948 JD Model A and a 1948 WD. I usually work the WD the longest and hardest. (Both were restored by me) My WD has had to tow my JD home three times, WD has never needed towed. What does that mean??? To me it means I will only buy AC in the future but then, who cares anyway, besides me?

Dave

Oh yea - that 180 won't lift a 4-row planter. It's not useful for much of anything. I bet you are looking to get rid of it now. I might be willing to take it off your hands - even though it is so weak and all. Just let me know. I even have a Junk Deere 4-row planter I'd be willing to trade - then you can have a matched set.

If my tractor wasn't fit for the season, I'd repair it - not whine to the forum.

My 180 has worked pretty well pulling my 12 row planter.

What kind of planter and where, I would think a 180 would be pretty light for a 12 row planter.

Its a JD 7000 in central IL. Its not the usual tractor I plant with but have used it in a pinch.

Neighbor,s 180 had better hydraulics then his Oliver 1650. You probably need to check out your hydraulic system.

This last reply made much more sense than any of the previous ones; no cocky attitudes, just a decent suggestion.Have the hydraulic system pressure checked out.
It's a sign of the times when people can't contain their sarcastic views on a site such as this one...What a shame...

I disagree, the shame was the man getting on the Allis board and running down an Allis. If he wanted to do that he could have got on the green board. My advice would be know your audience. Mike

I agree with you, Mike. He didn't want advice. He "just wanted you to know" of his experience. I'm fond of all old tractors and am willing to share my limited knowledge with everyone. I'm not here to diss anyone elses tractor.
