WD w 3pt...can it do post digger?

Hi, I have a WD and have available a 3pt kit. Before I spring for the 3pt, I need to ask something. Since the 3pt is driven by one way hydraulics (i.e. up only, gravity pulls it down) can it be used with a post hole digger?

It seems to me the hydraulics would need to push down, that gravity or the action of the drill would not suffice.

Anyone?

the auger should do the work, not the hydrualics-as far as the digging is concerned. it boils down to how worn your bit is. mine is shot (the point is, actually)and have had work done, but the shop just doesnt understand the principle behind it. if you have the book it gives a very good discription of what is needed for a good digger. i just don't know if it'd be cheaper to adapt an aftermarket auger rather than rebuild the original. i get by depending on how dry it is and how ambisios i am with the manual jobbers.

All tractor three point hitch systems that I've ever heard of are pressure up, gravity down. Doesn't matter if its 30hp or 200hp, etc. Skidloaders are pressure each way, but if the digger doesn't go down with yours, pour some water in the hole, have a cool one, and let nature take it's course.

Some Case models, for instance my Case 801B, has factory down pressure because it has external two way cylinders on the lift arms, and not the internal type like the Ford 8N & 9N.

I have used a post hole digger on my WD and it works good. I have heard your argument from some guys running the old fords without down pressure. Some of them use a long pole sticking out past the auger to lever the digger down. I have dug through some pretty hard dirt and some decent size tree roots and never left the seat. Our digger has a 12" auger. There aren't any rocks in my area though.
