Plowing

I'm pulling a 2 bottom, 3-pt plow with a d-14, and am fairly new to the game. When I try to turn over a cover crop (grass/clover in a silt loam), a lot of it won't want to stay flipped, and come back over as if I haven't plowed. I'm wondering if there's a simple fix, like I'm going to deep or need to set the plow somehow. Any help would be appreciated.

Doug

When you are plowing with one tire in the furrow is the plow sitting level??? If not, ajust it so the plow is level side to side, and front to back. Cover boards will help too. Keep in mind, that what you are trying to do, is leave what you have plowed on edge, not turn it all the way over. Robert

If you are pulling two bottoms with a D14, you should be in second or third gear. There is available a cover board which attaches to the outer end of the moldboard- measures about 4x8 inches, which helps to turn over sod. Otherwise, when you are dealing with sod, discing is usually necessary. If all you have for secondary tillage is a field cultivator, it will take additional trips, and all of the sod chunks will never disappear. That's why the normal rotation after sod is a row crop like corn or beans=cultivate! Helps to rip up the clumps.

Doug, try going faster. What gear are you using?
