I have put a rebuild kit in the hydraulic pump on my B. It did not work before the rebuild and still does not work. It will pump oil into the cylinder with out any weight on it, but as soon as I put weight on it it will not lift. I followed all of the directions in the shop manual for rebuilding. I also put non-detergent 20W oil in the trans as the books say's. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks

Since you have rebuilt the pump you realize it is a pretty simple devise. Here is what I would do. First off, will the ram hold position when the lift valve is in the middle position? (you must put some weight against the ram) If not you have a problem with the pressure relief-hold valve (same valve) or pump outlet valves. The small ball that goes between of the relief valve and the pin that is activated to drop the impliment is easy to loose or get off place when assmebling. If the cylinder will hold position, you do not have a relief valve or pump outlet valve problem, you have a pump inlet or pump pistom problem. Remove the pump and check the cam lobes, I have not seen it but several here have had like problems and found the cam lobes worn almost completely off. Check the piston return springs, should take pretty good finger pressure to hold then in while you install the cam followers and pin. Then check the inlet and outlet valves for leaks. Only other thing I can think of is do you have the elbow and short nipple for the pump intake?

thanks for the help.
the cylinder can be pushed back in with the control lever in the middle (hold) position.
the pump does have the elbowand short pipe on the inlet. I think the springs were good on the pistons.

OK, then you need to look at the outlet valves in the pump (top ones) and the relief-lowering valve. If you had the outlet valves out and know that they are not corroaded or dirty just remove the access plugs and give each ball a tap with a small hammer and punch to seat them. (You can do this with the pump mounted) and try it again. If it still does not work you need to work on the relief-lowering valve. The pump must be removed. I can't remember the exact order of the parts in the valve but this is close from the top down; there should be a plug that is a press fit in the body, a spring, a floating valve seat with a small hole in the middle, a check ball, spring, then the pin that rides on the control shaft. The top plug, spring, seat and ball are the pressure relief system. The bottom rod and spring, acting against the check ball, is the lowering valve. Hope all this helps.
