Foamy Trans Oil

Checked the grease for trans-diff in my WD it was really foamy,is this water or bad lube? What wt is recomended,80/90 ?

Tranny will get water in it if the shifter boot is bad which is what you probably have. Is it also a chocolate color? If so, it is water. I use 90wt gear lube in mine.

If you are talking about the hydrulic oil probably someone put a detergent oil in there! Drain, flush, and fill with NON_DETERGENT oil. As 20W non-detergent motor oil is not as easy to find these days many of us just use a good grade universal tractor hydraulic oil. Works fine in my WD.

I'm sure I'm at trans-diff,really gets foamy and has a white color,wasnt sure about wt of lube.

Thats water in it!! Gets in the gear shift boot (around the boot) They are available from AGCO and perhaps others. Meanwhile get rid of what is in there! The manual calls for SAE 80 all year. Takes 17 quarts + 1 qt more if you have the PTO.

Wouldn't hurt to check the final drives either. Remove little pipe plug on each one and oil should be close to the bottom of the hole. Can add through this hole or, best bet, remove the pan on each axle, clean and refill with clean,fresh 90-140 gear oil. Will need to make new gaskets or buy from AGCO (expensive). Need to spin the wheels all the way out to get to the bolts on the pans. Because of the time required a lot of people overlook this for many years so it is a good idea to do it.
