I may look at a 1950 Allis Chalmers model g for sale for $3000. It runs good, has good tires but needs points and paint, has 2 sets cultivators. I am fairly unfamiliar with tractors. What questions should I ask? I assume it is fairly easy to find parts for them but what about other attachments (for a small market gardening farm). What else should I know about this tractor? Thanks for any help!

Good little tractor, 10 hp, used a contintental N62 4 cylinder engine if I remember correctly. The engine is pricey to rebuild I'm told, so you want to run it and make sure it doesn't smoke much (preferably none) and it doesn't have any knocks. Drive it around and listen for odd sounds in the transmission - the tranny is pretty solid (same as that in a B or C). Attachments are available only as used pieces - you can find a few here and there, but maybe not everything. I'd love to have one ... when you want to give it to charity remember me ... ;-)

Thanks Bryan! This is exactly what I need to know. As far as finding attachments is there one best place to look? Is there a mowing attachment? What kind of hitch does there tractor have? Could it pull a mowing deck of some sort or a tiller if I can't find an attachment? Sorry for all the questions but I think I'll strike while the iron is hot! PS, I'm open to charity myself!

Implements are getting harder and harder to find (and expensive). Just a simple cultivator sold on Ebay about a month ago for $450. AC made a sickle bar mower for the front, a front mounted plow, cultivators, planters and even a grader blade among other implements. Some people make there own or adapt other brands. .... I've read of a finish mower with its own engine mounted up front.
Remember these aren't real powerful machines...

It is best if you can find a G for sale that comes with the implements...will probably save you a lot of time and money.
