B oil pressure

Supposedly a fresh engine. Oil pressure is slow to come up and never gets very far into operating range. Where is the most likely place to look for a problem?

Ron,
Oil pressure starts at the oil pump. Vanes and springs, then clearance to the end plate, then cam bushings, then oil filter. New style filter (like the one on the right)will have low pressure. Duey

the oil pump, puts out a fixed quantinty of oil. about 15% of this is bleed off to the filter, cleaned and dumped back to sump. the pressure is measured in the filter cavity. like duey said, if the filter is wrong, or the center 1/4 inch tube in the filter is gone, too much will flow thru and the pressure will drop. i would remove the filter and inspect. should be a 1/4 inch tube sticking up most of the way into the filter and have a couple small holes in tht top to let oil into the filter.

I thought that oil filter looked "large". It must be the new style. Different than I remember anyway. I will check that out first thing. Thanks, fellows.

That wasn't it. Filter is proper one. I must have some large clearances somewhere, or a weak pump.
