I have an old AC PTO hayrake that we got when we bought a roto baler from a neighbor in the 60's and was wondering if anyone had any idea when it was made or what # it was. It had 2 forward speeds and a reverse to tedder. It is strange looking and I suppose it was a mate to the roto baler. I finally located it today, had loaned it to a neighborat least 15 years ago and thought it might be worth restoring. Any help would be appreciated.TC

I think they came out in 47 or 48 and were made
about 10 years. Two forward spds. with a slip
clutch to protect the reel works. Had an oil
bath for the gears which had to be maintained.
It was PTO driven which was how it could be run in reverse to tedd. Not sure of the model #,
wasn't the 7 or 77.

The description is correct- Dad bought one in 48-49. Dual wheels front and back were an option. It raked a wide swath- about ten feet. Three mower swaths could be rolled together in one round- to make a decent windrow for the round baler. I have no idea what the model number might have been. It was my job to grease it, and it had many zerks. No sealed bearings in those days. Learned the first commandment of lubrication on that thing- "if it moves, it needs grease".

I have one of those old rakes. Drug it out of a fencerow. Very odd thing to find in this area. I tinker around with it just for fun. Mechanically I've got it all back together and working, but I've still got to do the cosmetics. I have an original manual and parts book for it, and A-C called it the PTO rake. The #7 was built from 1957 until 62 or 63 I think, and was basically the same rake, but the gearbox had only 1 raking speed instead of two. There was no lever on it to change to tedding. Instead, there was a quick-coupler on that end of the PTO shaft too, and you changed it between input shafts on the gearbox. The front wheel was also behind the basket instead of in front of it.
