Can someone tell me if the C has the same engine as the CA. Have manuals on the way. Guess I'm getting in a hurry. I have a B,C and CA. Thanks a bunch Bill

Thanks a lot I got the CA running yesterday. I started off on rebuilding Farmall tractors and all of a sudden started finding AC's at bargin prices so now have 6 ACs now lots of rebuilding to do. Again thanks a lot. Bill

all three engines look the same on the outside. the B and C motors are the samae internal as long as they are CE motors (look at the serial number). The CA motor is different internal. Has pressure lubed bearings instead of splash lubed. You can change out the engine as a whole, but dont swap internal parts.
--The CE motor sends pressureized oil down the center of the cam shaft. Holes in the shaft spray oil at the connecting rods and main bearings. They are not under pressure like a car engine. the filter actually bleeds 15% of the total oil off the supply pump and filters it and drains it back to sump. Filtered oil does not go to the bearaings.

i think i write faster than i think. i believe the CE motor actually forces oil down a hollow cam shaft and sprays on the connecting rods and pistons. The cam bearings are directly above the three main bearings and these are pressureized thru a cross drilled hole. As i said the oil is not filtered and used, but dumped back to sump after filtering. The pressure gauge actually measures the pressure going into the filter. The rocker arm shaft in the head is lubed by an external tube on back end of the engine.

You're correct in that the CE engine does pressure lubricate the main bearings and spray oil to the rods. However, the model B after serial number 64501, all model C's, and all model CA's all used the CE engine. They're all identical except that the CA has a 6.25:1 compression ratio vs 5.75:1 and a rated speed of 1650 vs. 1500. (The compression ration is changed just by using higher pistons.) The first model B's used a smaller piston, 3 1/4" vs. 3 3/8. However, the blocks and internal parts between the BE and CE engine are the same. You can interchange the sleeves and thus install the appropriate pistons. Thus, you can change any of these engines into another with a change of pistons and governor spring. In practice, when any were overhauled years ago, thay almost all got CA pistons put in them for a little more power.
