Is there a filter in the hydraulic pump resorvoir base that can/or needs to be cleaned? It is hesitating in gear, goes and stops, and it loses power steering. After it warms up, it seems to get better, the more you run it the better it gets.

Mine had that problem. It was caused by a worn out section of the pump.

early ones had a large(2 or 3") chunk of pipe about a foot long behind the frame rail on the left side, had rubber reducers on each end that crack and a brass screen inside. rubber things NA and AGCO sells a replacement just a splice the same size, might be suckng air?

The only hyd filter I know of is the spin-on one located on the side. Make sure your fluid levels are full. The power steering pump supplies hyd fluid to the power director clutches so maybe the pump is going bad.

Mike,
There were some hydraulic problems with some of the first 190XTs. I recall installing some screen in the sump to break up air bubbles also an accumulater behind the left frame rail in the oil return also to address an air in the oil problem. Make sure you have no leaks in the intake line. Might have been more but after 35 years I don't remember. Duey
