The block in my W C is cracted between the sleeves at the bottom end. Is this a weeknes in this engine, or has mine been used rough. Thanks for any info. Phil

Probably had hard water at one time to get cracks at bottom. Cracks at the top are more common and usually harmless. I'd try the bolt idea or sealer.

A old guy that worked in AC repair shop once told me every one was cracked. I felt it was top side, he said all you have to do is lay a pice of soft copper wire in the crack and it will take care of its self. good luck Dave

About 20 years ago we rebuilt the engine on our 1938 WC. The webs between the cyls were cracked as you described. We simply took the block and carefully mounted it on the table of our milling machine, drilled three 1/4 inch holes between the cyls., pulled tight with bolts and havent had any problems. I'll admit the tractor is only perodicly, but runs perfectly.

Top end small cracks will seal with a new head gasket. Bottom end cracks will not work. O-rings will leak antifreeze into thepan and wipe out the bearings. Tony

Don't you pour some non hardening gasket sealer over the lower carcks after the liners are in? If the area around the crack is good and clean, maybe sandblasted, this should seal it. I have heard of this fix. The bolt through the block seems like a good idea, however I guess many are running without it. I tend to be a belt and suspenders type though.

Hi I have rebuilt many WC engines and have never seen one that wasn't cracked. I wouldn't worry about the crack.
Have fun with it
