My starter won't engage. Is there some adjustment for this problem. The tractor has been changed over to 12 volts but probalby not the starter is this a problem. I also need some fenders and a steering wheel. It has one rust through on the flat part of the hood metal how is the best way to fix that.

Regarding the rust spot on the hood- cut out to good metal and weld in a replacement with a wire feed welder. Low heat should not distort the metal like a stick welder would. Should grind down smooth and straight, ready to paint.

Just a small amount of damage on the gear teeth will keep the starter from engaging. It will just 'zing'. The starter motor is fine. You will need to pull out the starter and take off the gear assembly. Your Agco dealer should be able to get you a new one. Mine had one in stock.

Today's Featured Article - Identifying Tractor Smells - by Curtis Von Fange. We are continuing our series on learning to talk the language of our tractor. Since we canít actually talk to our tractors, though some of the older sect of farmers might disagree, we use our five physical senses to observe and construe what our iron age friends are trying to tell us. We have already talked about some of the colors the unit might leave as clues to its well-being. Now we are going to use our noses to diagnose particular smells. ELECTRICAL SMELLS ... [Read Article]
