does anyone know where to get the 2.5" flat freeze plig that covers the camshaft on back of wd-wd45-d-17 engines?

These things are actually called welch plugs and should be avaliable from almost any tractor or equipment dealer for $1-2 each...You probably want to seat them with a little bit of form-a-gasket.

AGCO has them. If no dealer near you call Sandy Lake at 724 376 2489 or most any parts seller listed in the "Marketplace" on the left side of this web page.

I glued an over size one to a bearing race with JB Weld, put it in the lathe with pressure from the tailstock on the freeze plug and turned it smaller with small cuts and fine feed.

I think new ones from AGCO are $2 or less. My price list from 1999 shows that expansion plug to cost $1.32 from AGCO. Not hardly worth the effort to do anything else.
